Kathrin de Silva

Kathrin de Silva (née Schmoll) is an award-winning editor and creative consultant with more than 25 years of professional experience. She has edited over a thousand commercials, documentaries, music videos, features, branded content and mood films for agencies, international producers, and directors worldwide. Her expertise is sought after not only for editing, but also for consulting on story structure, rhythm, and creative strategy. She has attended film shootings worldwide, gaining first-hand experience of production environments across diverse cultures and atmospheres.

Starting her career in 1997 at Laszlo Kadar Film in Hamburg, and freelancing just three years later, Kathrin quickly established a reputation for precision and creative intuition. She has worked on projects across Europe, South Africa, Argentina, Brazil, Singapore, Japan, Australia, and China. Her editing desk has been set up in postproduction facilities, but also in the most unexpected places — from rooftops and cafés to a botanical garden in Poland, a Swiss cheese factory set, and even a production van in a Chinese ghost town during a monsoon.

Kathrin has been a member of the DWP Jury since 2003, after receiving the award for best editing on the Mercedes Mika campaign. She produced a content series for Funke Media (2019), and is currently in postproduction of a 3.5-hour documentary, bringing together stunning imagery and storytelling craft.

She edits with Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, and CapCut, tailoring workflows to each project’s needs. Her client list includes Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Kia, Opel, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Tesla, Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, Ferrero, Lidl, Greenforce, Wayfair, Bertelsmann, Raiffeisen, and many more. Since 2020 she has specialized in remote workflows, regularly consulting and collaborating with agencies and brands worldwide via Zoom and Teams.

Beyond classical commercials, Kathrin creates mood films for pitches, edits stock-based projects, and advises on creative direction. She has produced more than 100 stock-footage films for Studio Pink IO (Denmark), and continues to deliver reels and short-form content for social media campaigns. Side projects include filming table tennis culture and short creative clips.
